Below are some concept designs for an upgrade to the UI of the GameGround Facebook App. We wanted to revisit how the entire app was laid out for our users. After reviewing user feedback, we decided to streamline the entire app. By breaking the homepage down to just the category listings, users could more easily find the games they really wanted to play. We continued this process to the new genre sub-category, displaying the games with big, bold thumbnails using the game art. From here, the user would go to the brand new game page design, where they could pick a tournament they’d like to play in and have easier access to the game’s power-ups. The game summary and profile pages also received design refreshes.

In August 2011, I started up a new side project to replace the now closed Phirebrush. The original idea had the site housing my monthly calendar wallpapers. But after some thought, I came up with the idea of taking the great thing about Phirebrush (user submissions) and use that for this project as well.

I set out to create a responsive website, meaning the website will display not only on your desktop but also on your tablet and mobile devices using CSS media queries. I decided on using WordPress as the CMS for the project, giving me the ability to use the custom field function to input the different resolutions and the ability to schedule releases to launch every monday at 5am. I also utilized jquery to trigger the download button. When pressed, the resolutions offered display as well as a small section showcasing the users current desktop resolution to help aid in which one to pick.

In December, only five months after our launch, we surpassed over 20,000 unique visitors and over 5,000 downloads of the featured submissions. We’ve been offering quite an arrange of wallpapers from beautiful photographs to awesome artistic creations all being released first on our site.

When I first started at NYC based start-up GameGround in 2010, the product was a desktop client the user would download. The client would track your gaming stats and display on their website. Mid-2011 the company decided to change directions and thus their move to Facebook as a gaming application.

As lead designer I handled the re-branding. I worked with our Project Manager to create a wireframe, then bring it to life in the designs below. I also handled the creation of the new logo, all assets (like the coin graphic below) and all the marketing design leading up to and after the launch of the app. As of writing this post, the application has over 1,000,000 monthly active users and we continue to update and refresh the design. I’ve included final Photoshop designs below of some of the major sections of the current design:

After having moved up to NYC to live with my girlfriend and capturing that first year, we decided to follow it up with 52 weeks of just us. Every week = one brand new photo of us.
