My Role: Design and Development

Back in 2010, I gave Pepperknit.com a brand-new design. A lot has changed on the web since then, mainly the rise in mobile. So I talked with Erin about refreshing her site with a new responsive layout, and she was all in!

I ended up working with the same framework I used on Jason & Erin and dsktps, giving me a solid responsive foundation to work with on WordPress.

Along with the responsive layout, we took the time to address some features lacking in the previous design. First was a one-stop “shop” for all the patterns she has for sale or download. We decided on a single page, showcasing newest to oldest with all links going to her Ravelry account, where customers can download or purchase certain patterns. Previously, the patterns were littered in posts or elsewhere on the web. Also addressed was the search functionality: the previous design had a search box, but we wanted to expand on that by showcasing a tag cloud as well as all the categories found on her site, since we narrowed the main categories in the header to only two. One of the last major features to address was the inclusion of a contact form, which we put on the About page. This is similar to how I set up dsktps as well, allowing the user to find out more about the site and contact at the same time.

In the end, the site has a brand-new look that’s not only mobile friendly but faster loading all around, and Erin couldn’t be happier!
